An Introduction to Ancient Egypt (WEA Course)

Abstract

An introduction to the art and culture of the first great civilizations of Mesopotamia and the ancient Near East - now largely synonymous with present day Iraq. We will explore the great early cities of Ur, Uruk and Sumer through an examination of the sites and their artefacts. We will focus on the Royal Cemetery at Ur and on the great relief sculptures of Assyria including those from Nineveh, which can be examined bon a visit to the British Museum.
