The Marlow Archaeology Group

Dummy site photoMarlow Archaeology Group (MAG) is an active and friendly group open to all over the age of 18 with an interest in our hidden past: no experience is needed.

Our focus is on Marlow and the neighbouring areas of the Thames Valley and the Chilterns. We aim to increase our knowledge of the use and occupation of our area through research, talks from experts and practical investigation on the ground; and to share and encourage interest in our findings with the community. There has been a welcome and very positive response to the creation of the Group which draws on the legacies of both Marlow Archaeological Society (MAS) and Archaeology in Marlow (AIM).

News

Cookham Priory excavationWe were recently invited by the University of Reading to support their investigation in Cookham Paddock (see BBC article). Several members with excavation experience worked alongside the supervisors and students, together with members of neighbouring archaeological societies.

The formal existence of Marlow Archaeology Group began on the 1st of September after the interim trustees had signed the constitution and the Deeds of Transfer of the assets and funds from MAS and AIM to MAG.
